WEEK 4 (September 8 - September 11)

Here’s some important information to keep in mind for the week of Tuesday, September 8th - Friday September 11th

DAILY SCHEDULE:  To assist students and families with structuring the school day, I’ve provided a daily schedule that can be found in our Google Classroom under the “Daily Class Schedule” heading in the “Classwork” tab.

This schedule gives times for each day’s student tasks.  Additionally, direct links can be found for these tasks and students can click these links to be taken straight to the location associated with each period of the day.

Students should consult this schedule daily in order to organize their school day.  It is recommended that students provide themselves with appropriately timed breaks within their day to play or enjoy a snack before moving on to the next academic assignment.

You can also access this schedule by clicking the following link…

MUSIC AND P.E.:  Students will be receiving Music and P.E. instruction online once a week.

Music classes will occur from 9:30am-10:00am every Tuesday.  These classes are led by our new Music teacher, Ms. Thoreson.  Students can get access to her Zoom Instructional Meetings through the Google Classroom or through the Daily Class Schedule (see above).

P.E. classes will occur from 9:30am-9:50am every Thursday.  These classes are led by Coach Mac.  As with Music, students can get access to her Zoom Instructional Meetings through the Google Classroom or through the Daily Class Schedule (see above).

SCHOOL SUPPLIES:  A list of recommended school supplies was posted in the Google Classroom two weeks ago.

The list of requested supplies can be found here...

Thank you to all the families that were able to secure these supplies.  If you could not get the supplies listed, please make an attempt to do so over the next week or two.  If there is a problem in acquiring supplies, please let me know with an email to [email protected].

Additionally, many families were able to pickup the Math workbooks, Social Studies materials, composition books, pencils, and crayons that were distributed in front of Dayton School last Friday.  These materials will be utilized by your students as the year proceeds, but DO NOT do the activities in these materials without being given direct instruction from Mr. Olsen ahead of time.

If you were unable to pickup the supplies bag last Friday, please contact our principal, Mr. Moore, to arrange a new pickup day.  He can be reached by email at [email protected].

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM PREVIOUS WEEKS:  Here are some important items to remember from messages posted on this teacher page during the first three weeks of school…

Zoom Morning Meetings continue to start at 10:30am daily.  Live Zoom instruction will proceed each day from 10:30am to 12noon.

I provide “Office Time" from 10:00am-10:30am each morning for students who need extra assistance with classwork, those that have questions, or any other school related support.

A preview of what we'll be doing each day can be found at Mr. Olsen's Fourth Grade Google Classroom by taking a look at the "TODAY'S INSTRUCTIONAL SCHEDULE" post on the opening Stream page.

The classwork expected to be completed independently AFTER live Zoom instruction is listed under "TODAY"S INSTRUCTIONAL SCHEDULE", as well.  Note that assignments will not be posted for student access in advance of the school day.  Each day's assignments will be accessible AFTER live Zoom instruction so that students do not attempt independent work prior to being given the necessary instruction to work on their tasks. This also fosters the practice of students attending to a day-to-day routine of self-guided, afternoon classwork.

You may also notice a "Focus" listed at the top of each day's instructional schedule.  This gives you a general idea of the key areas of study being looked at each day.

Please understand that our continued goal is to start at a GRADUAL pace.  The intensity of student academic demands will increase as the school year proceeds. But right now, our aim is the introduce students into the virtual learning environment at a deliberate pace in order to build learning-at-home stamina & resilience.

If your child craves additional academic work after having completed each day's classwork, please have them explore the online learning links offered in my Google Classroom.  There are TONS of challenging, interesting, and fun resources there to keep your child engaged and learning.

Please contact me through ClassDojo or email me at [email protected] with any questions, comments, or concerns..Issues involving technology can be addressed through our District tech personnel at [email protected].

Thank you.

Be well.  Stay safe.

Mr. Olsen
