WEEK 2 (August 24 - August 28)

Monday, August 20th - Friday August 28th is our second week of 4th grade and first FULL week of school.

We will start Zoom Morning Meetings at a new time this week, 10:30am.  Live Zoom instruction will proceed each day from 10:30am to 12noon.  Please make note of this and make sure that your child arrives to the Zoom Morning Meeting ON TIME (preferably a little earlier than 10:30am!).

You can see a preview of what we'll be doing each day by going to Mr. Olsen's Fourth Grade Google Classroom and taking a look at the "TODAY'S INSTRUCTIONAL SCHEDULE" post on the opening Stream page.

Additionally, the classwork expected to be completed independently AFTER live Zoom instruction is listed under "TODAY"S INSTRUCTIONAL SCHEDULE", as well.  Note that assignments will not be posted for student access in advance of the school day.  Each day's assignments will be accessible AFTER live Zoom instruction so that students do not attempt independent work prior to being given the necessary instruction to work on their tasks. This also fosters the practice of students attending to a day-to-day routine of self-guided, afternoon classwork.

You may also notice a "Focus" listed at the top of each day's instructional schedule.  This gives you a general idea of the key areas of study being looked at each day.  For the week of August 24 - August 28, our efforts will be concentrated on building class community each day, establishing distance learning norms & procedures, and some light introduction into our core curricular content (reading, writing, math).

Please understand that our goal is to start at a GRADUAL pace.  The intensity of student academic demands will increase as the school year proceeds. But right now, our aim is the introduce students into the virtual learning environment at a deliberate pace in order to build learning-at-home stamina & resilience.

If your child craves additional academic work after having completed each day's classwork, please have them explore the online learning links offered in my Google Classroom.  There are TONS of challenging, interesting, and fun resources there to keep your child engaged and learning.

Students in Mr. Olsen's 2020-2021 Fourth Grade Class MUST join our Google Classroom this week!  It is the HUB for access to schedules, announcements, and assignments (See the "WEEK 1" post below for how to get started in the Google Classroom).

Additionally, if you have not (as a parent) joined ClasDojo, please do so immediately.  This is my primary tool for parent-teacher communication (again, you can see the "WEEK 1" post below for information on how to join).

Please contact me through ClassDojo or email me at [email protected] with any questions, comments, or concerns..Issues involving technology can be addressed through our District tech personnel at [email protected].

Another challenging, yet fun, week of distance learning is upon us!

Thank you.

Be well.  Stay safe.

Mr. Olsen
