What's Happening at Dayton

Zoom with Mr. Moore

Now that we have been in school for a few weeks, it’s a good time to meet and talk about how distance learning is going at Dayton. Please join me on Zoom on Friday, September 11, 2020, from 12pm-1pm to voice your questions, concerns, and to hear from other Dayton families. I know there is a lot of uncertainty right now and I will do my best to answer your questions and address your concerns.

In order to connect to the zoom session, we recommend using your child's school zoom account.

August 14, 2020

Greetings Dayton Families,

We would like to personally thank you for your patience and support as we continue to prepare for the 2020-21 distance learning program.  Although many of us would prefer to see students’ in-person, the conditions we all currently face as a nation do not permit in-person instruction at this time.   Rest assured, we have learned a lot from the end of last school year and fully expect to improve the distance learning experience for our students this year. We are looking forward to serving our students as we begin this new school year on Thursday, August 20, 2020. This letter will provide you with important information that we hope will help you and your student prepare for a successful experience as we all work together to navigate the challenges impacting us all.

Data Confirmation Process

Parents/Guardians of all returning students are required to complete the Data Confirmation process in the Aeries Parent Portal. All parents and guardians are required to have a current email address in the system. Click here to access the Aeries Parent Portal: https://slzusd.aeries.net/student/LoginParent.aspx

The Aeries Parent Portal is also available as an app for both Android and Apple devices.

To confirm your email or for Aeries Parent Portal issues and assistance please contact our Dayton Office Assistant, Mischa Cantwell: mcantwell@slzusd.org

Classroom Assignments and Student Supplies

Parents/Guardians will be able to access the name of their child’s assigned teacher on Wednesday, August 19th at 4pm through the Aeries Parent Portal. We are currently planning to distribute a basic student supply kit on Thursday, Sep. 3rd and Friday, Sep. 4th. More details will be sent out soon.

Technology Support (Student’s needing a laptop or wifi assistance)

All families should fill out the Student Technology Need Survey Agreement so that we can better assist your child with access to technology. Please fill out a form for each student whether you need support with a device or not. Survey Link: https://bit.ly/StudentTechnologyNeedSurveyAgreement

Hello Dayton Tigers!

I hope this message finds you healthy, happy and enjoying the last weeks of summer. I want to acknowledge that this is a very different way to start the school year, but I know that our amazing Dayton staff and community will work to make this a wonderful year. If you are new to our community, welcome! If you are returning to Dayton, welcome back!

As you know, we are beginning the school year with distance learning. A technology survey will be going out from the district next week. If you need a device or lack reliable internet access, please be sure to put that information on the survey! This survey will be used to allocate technological resources to families to make sure that all of our students are ready for distance learning.

Distance learning weekly schedules are currently being negotiated, but let me assure you that we’ve taken into account the attention span and what is appropriate for our little ones in putting together schedules. As soon as they have been approved, we will share them with you! The state has come out with requirements around distance learning, so it will look different from what we did in the spring. For more information on state requirements, feel free to look at the board meeting presentations from July 28th and August 4th on the district website. There is a lot of information in those slide decks.

Many things will be different this year as compared to other school years, but some things will not change. We will do what we always do at Dayton: we will do what is best for our kids. We will be focusing not just on the academics of school, but on making sure your children feel supported and safe in this new situation. Just know that this is still a learning process for all of us and we are looking forward to learning together. We miss all of our Dayton Tigers and can’t wait to see them (virtually) when we start school on August 20th. More information will follow in the coming weeks, but until then, reach out if you have questions. We also urge you to continue to check the Dayton web site for up to date information.

Have a wonderful rest of the summer and stay safe!

Kevin Moore
