WEEK 23 (February 9 - February 12)

Hope you all enjoyed the relaxing three-day weekend!  We have ANOTHER coming up NEXT weekend, too!

 

Here are some things to be aware of...

 

NO SCHOOL, MONDAY, FEB. 15th – PRESIDENTS’ DAY:  In honor of the Presidents’ Day holiday, there will be no Zoom instructional session and no assigned student classwork for the day.  Regular Zoom classes (Music and Zoom class instruction) will resume on Tuesday, February 16th.

 

WEDNESDAY MORNING GATHERING CONTINUES: On Wednesday, February 10th at 10:00am Dayton will be having another virtual Wednesday Morning Gathering!  3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes will be joining a school Zoom meeting at 10:00am on Wednesday where our principal, Mr. Moore, will be leading the intermediate grades in a gathering much like we had prior to the closing of in-person instruction (there will be no "Office Time" from 10:00-10:30am on that day).  Information will be shared and prizes will be given!  Parents, students, and family members are all invited to join!

WEEK 20 (January 19 - January 22)

Hope you had an enjoyable three-day weekend as we celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. yesterday!

 

Here's some information for the week...

 

ONLINE STUDENT ASSESSMENT: On Wednesday January 20th and Thursday, January 21st, Mr. Olsen’s 2020-2021 Fourth Grade Class will be focusing our Zoom instructional sessions on completing District-mandated assessments with our students.  

 

We will be testing Reading skills on Wednesday and Math skills on Thursday during our Zoom instructional sessions from 10:30am-12:0noon.   Students will still be given classwork to work on during the afternoon, as well.  Our typical Zoom instructional days will resume on Friday.

WEEK 19 (January 11 - January 15)

Another new week of Distance Learning with Mr. Olsen's 2020-2021 Fourth Grade Class!

 

Be sure that your student is keeping up with assignments in our Google Classroom.  Staying on top of assigned classwork and Zoom instructional sessions is critical toward academic success during Distance Learning.

 

As always, I am available to assist students individually before each day's Zoom instructional session, Monday-Friday, 10am-10:30am, during "Office Time" in our Zoom Meeting Room.  Students with questions or those who need additional academic support should avail themselves of this opportunity each day.

We're back to Distance Learning this week, once again.  It's a pretty standard week in terms of instruction and classwork. Here's a little on what to expect, however...

NO SCHOOL, MONDAY, DEC. 21st - FRIDAY, JAN. 1st – WINTER BREAK:  In honor of the Holiday Season, there will be no school for the next two weeks from December 21st - January 1st.  This includes no Music or P.E. classes, no Wednesday Morning Gathering, no Zoom instructional sessions, and no assigned student classwork for these weeks.  The regular Distance Learning instructional schedule will resume on Monday, January 4th.

 

 

 

It's been an odd and unprecedented year!  Fortunately, it seems like things will eventually start returning to a more familiar look in 2021.  We will see.

 

Until then, please remain safe and joyful during this special time of year.  I look forward to spending quality time with my family over the holidays and hope that you & your families will take this opportunity to celebrate togetherness, as well.  Whether, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, New Year's or any other important occasion (I will be celebrating my 50th birthday in a weird, pandemic kind of way later this month!), I sincerely wish you all the best.  

 

I look forward to seeing and teaching our students once again in January of 2021- a new year with fresh potential and possibilities!

SPIRIT WEEK! - This week is "Spirit Week" for Dayton School!  Students are invited to show their school spirit in their classroom ZOOM sessions throughout the week. 

 

Monday: Crazy Hat / Crazy Hair Day

Tuesday: Super Hero Day

Wednesday: Grade-Level Color Day (4th Grade is Blue)

Thursday: Disney Day

Friday: Tiger Pride Day

I hope you and your families will be able to safely enjoy the holiday break next week.  It is obviously unlike any Thanksgiving Break we've ever experienced before. Things are extremely difficult for so many in our community and in the nation as a whole.

 

But I, for one, am extremely thankful for SO many things - both personally and professionally. 

 

Perhaps, most specifically in this space, I appreciate the opportunity to continue educating your children during these challenging times and I am grateful for the support & cooperation I have received from the students and their families.  I couldn't be more fortunate than to be teaching the amazing children of the Dayton School community.

 

Please take a moment, during this time of thanks, to appreciate the good things in your life.  In the end, those are the things that give us the strength to persevere and endure.

WEEK 13 (November 9 - November 13)

 

A new week begins, and here are some things to be aware of moving forward…

 

MR. OLSEN’S 2020-2021 FOURTH GRADE CLASS WINS THE TIGER TROPHY!

During November 4th’s Wednesday Morning Gathering, our class won the coveted Tiger Trophy!  Since there is no Wednesday Morning Gathering this week (due to the Veterans’ Day holiday – see below), we will be retaining the trophy for TWO weeks, instead of just one!  Congratulations to all!

 

NO SCHOOL, WEDNESDAY, NOV. 11th – VETERANS’ DAY:  In honor of the Veterans’ Day holiday, there will be no Wednesday Morning Gathering, no Zoom instructional session, and no assigned student classwork for the day.  Regular Zoom classes (P.E. and Zoom class instruction) will resume on Thursday, November 12th.

 

Next week is SPIRIT WEEK for Dayton School!  Students are invited to show their school spirit in their classroom ZOOM sessions during the week of November 16th-20th.  Details regarding each day’s spirit theme are listed in the SPIRIT WEEK posting below.

We're starting November with our 12th week of Distance Learning in Mr. Olsen's 2020-2021 4th Grade Class.  Here are some things to consider this week…
